Spiritualized, Daddy G, Go_A and Puuluup revealed among the line-up for the Station Narva festival in September

Date

The music and city festival Station Narva returns for its 7th edition to the easternmost Estonian city of Narva from the 5th to the 8th of September.

  • Space rock legends Spiritualized and Massive Attack’s founding member Daddy G from England, Ukrainian folktronika sensation Go_A and local greats from Puuluup to The Ensemble of Estonian Electronic Music Society playing synth pioneer Sven Grünberg’s iconic pieces are revealed as the performers of the 2024 edition.
  • Station Narva 2024 festival passes and day tickets for 45 euros and day tickets for 25 euros are on sale via TMW webshop and Piletilevi

Station Narva presents music from near and far, invites to discover the hidden gems of the border town and to explore the past, present and future of post-industrial Ida-Viru County. The heart of this year’s music festival is the Narva Museum in the historic Hermann Castle, where three stages will be set up on the 6th and 7th of September.

Pioneers of British space rock, Spiritualized fill the historic fortress’ North Yard with echoes of lost Americana’s gospels and spirituals; hypnotic drones and mini-symphonies. Led by J Spaceman aka Jason Pierce, Spiritualized are the ultimate masters in reconciliating extremes: minimalism, maximalism; lush atmospheres and sad-hearted beauty, captured most memorably on iconic LP Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space (1997) as well as on the latest album, Everything Was Beautiful (2022), a hypnotic mixture of savage intensity and benzodiazepine drift.

The echoes of pre-millennium Bristol are brought to the medieval castle by Massive Attack’s founding member Daddy G aka Grantley Evan Marshall, one of the alchemists of trip hop,  a hugely influential musician, producer. selector, and most importantly a true blue champion of blending genres – from his roots in reggae and punk to US house, hip hop and beyond. He will perform a b2b set with his fellow Bristolian DJ Queen Bee, who treats Narva with a  stylish blend of dancehall, afrobeat and rare grooves.

Among the international performers are also British contemporary music star Belle Chen, who enchanted Estonia already at this year’s Tallinn Music Week and Ukrainian folktronika sensation Go_A, who gained international recognition with their Eurovision Song Contest entry “Shum” (“Noise”) in 2021.

The line-up presents also a potent cross-generational selection of Estonian artists. The Ensemble of the Estonian Electronic Music Society will perform a decoded concert programme from Estonian electronic music pioneer Sven Grünberg‘s landmark albums Hingus (1982) and OM (1988) as well as from the sci-fi film The Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel (1979). Puuluup’s talharpa revival with a quirky Veisson-dance and cross-generational sing-alongs by neoro-rock veterans Singer Vinger will be counterbalanced by the 21st century electropop and alternative R&B of NOËP and maria kallastu as well as young local DJs Työmik Bassofsky and itsmebruh.
